Two new products from Regal are increasing efficiency for HVAC systems and making life easier for their operators. Regal’s DEC Star system combines patented technologies of Genteq® HEB blowers and axial flux Genteq motors to dramatically improve efficiency for HVAC appliances, and reduce input wattage by 15 to 35 percent over standard blowers with traditional ECM motors. The Dual Efficiency Configuration (DEC) removes the motor from the blower inlet and eliminates restriction to improve the system efficiency of furnaces, fan coil units, packaged units, and ground coupled heat pumps.
Also, the Evergreen EM/CM is an aftermarket ECM replacement for OEM Constant Torque ECM indoor blower motors operated with 24vac speed taps, such as the Genteq model X13. These indoor blower motors were previously OEM only parts, and now they can be replaced with an Evergreen EM or CM that is pre-programmed with no complicated wiring. Both products offer benefits right away—and in the long term.
INDUSTRY-CHANGING DESIGN
The system’s unique design provides uniform airflow for improved heat transfer and reduced hot spots and pressure drop across the appliance. DEC Star uses proven industry standard impellers and typically fits the same mounting as existing blowers for easy retrofitting.
The DEC Star unit weighs less than 10 pounds and achieves similar CFM results as bigger and higher rated blowers. “This is an industry-changing design,” says Paul Selking, HVAC business leader, Regal. “DEC Star’s compact, light configuration is already facilitating some exciting advancements for our OEM partners. It reduces velocity head losses in air handlers and provides balanced uniform airflow for improved heat transfer and reduced pressure loss in furnaces.” Previously available with a 10-inch wheel diameter, Regal demonstrated a new 9-inch wheel diameter system at the AHR Expo.

HANDS-ON PROOF
At the most recent AHR Expo, the DEC Star system was demonstrated side-by-side with a standard blower and ECM radial flux motor. Attendees were impressed with how easily the demonstration showed the system’s capacity to change parameters and operate at higher/lower air flow rates and to see the system’s advantages in real-time. Regal’s training manager Christopher Mohalley presented seminars on replacement electronically commutated motors (ECMs) for OEM and aftermarket applications.
The Evergreen OM is designed as an ECM replacement for PSC outdoor fan motors. It is a high-efficiency ECM designed to replace existing induction motors (shaded pole and PSC) in outdoor fan motor applications. Mohalley showed how two motors can cover most residential and light commercial outdoor fan motor applications (A/C and heat pump, split and package units) with just three wire connections and no capacitor. The simplicity and reliability of Evergreen OM allows users to reduce inventory, increase same-day repairs, and provide energy savings. ◆
