The Electrical Apparatus Service Association (EASA) is an international trade organization of more than 1,700 electromechanical sales and service firms in nearly seventy countries. Its members sell and service industrial electric motors and related rotating apparatus such as generators, pumps, fans, compressors, gearboxes, and blowers. Through its many engineering and educational programs, EASA provides members with a means of keeping up to date on materials, equipment, best practices, and state-of-the-art technology—and there’s no better place to see the organization’s best and brightest than its annual convention, held this year in Nashville, Tennessee, from July 19 through 22.
EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS AND CASE STUDIES
The 2025 EASA Convention is the ultimate destination for professionals looking to grow their business and survey the coming landscape of electromechanical service. Each day, EASA presents educational sessions devoted to the current challenges facing the industry that offer field-test solutions that attendees can implement immediately.
One highlight features Shermco’s Ron Widup, who leads a walkthrough on the implications of NFPA 70E and 70B to field and shop operations. This must-see session will provide a practical overview of applying both electrical safety and electrical maintenance standards, examining how to use and implement these standards practically to minimize risks and improve operational safety with a focus on the impacts to both shop and field personnel. Windup will provide insights into recent changes and requirements, including basic hazard assessment, highlights of safe work practices, and applying electrical maintenance strategies.
Another session focuses on the latest changes to NEMA standard and IEC harmonization. The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has published an updated ANSI/NEMA MG 1-2021, Motors and Generators, redesignated as NEMA MG 00001-2024. This session will outline several major additions that serve to further harmonize NEMA MG 0001 and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards. Although NEMA and IEC utilize different test methods to determine motor efficiency, the differences are smaller than ever. NEMA is collaborating with IEC working groups to harmonize energy efficiency classes globally, creating an easier path to compare motors from different regions. This session provides attendees with the global perspective they need.
OPEN TECHNICAL FORUM
Attendees looking for specific answers to their bespoke industry needs have a home at the ever-popular open technical forum facilitated by EASA technical support specialists. Stand elbow to elbow with some of the brightest minds in the electromechanical repair and service industry as they field questions from real-world dilemmas. It’s service advice without a safety net, as all attendees are invited to stump the panel or offer their own solutions to today’s most challenging motor queries.
NEW SOLUTIONS THEATER
Staying abreast of the latest innovations in the electromechanical apparatus repair and sales industry is the focal point of the New Solutions Theater. The New Solutions Theater provides attendees with an opportunity learn about the top company’s latest products. Each twenty-minute slot in the New Solutions Theater right on the Solutions Expo floor is a great way to learn about the next wave of products and services influencing the direction of the electromechanical apparatus industry.
