KNOWLEDGE HUBS
New for 2019, HydroVision International developed educational sessions that will take place in the exhibit hall. These micro-sessions are open to all attendees, who can visit the three Knowledge Hubs located throughout the exhibit hall, with sessions taking place on all three days. The Knowledge Hubs are organized into the following categories:
- Energy Storage and Grid Issues: This is your chance to learn more about the grid of the future and hot topics in this area, including microgrids, pumped storage hydropower, batteries, integration of hydro with other renewables, and power system stabilization technologies.
- Learning from Case Studies: What are your peers doing to deal with various challenges that may arise? Get the in-depth details on such topics as operations and maintenance, rehabilitation, modernization, workforce diversity, dam safety, and more.
- Technology Horizons: The industry’s horizons are expanding, and new technologies are leading the way. Enjoy sessions on the next level for many technologies, such as virtual reality, advanced manufacturing, digitalization, drones, and the latest apps.
POWER PRODUCER EXECUTIVE ROUNDTABLE
During this roundtable discussion—open to all attendees—C-level executives from a variety of power-producing companies will discuss the challenges they face and the opportunities they see in hydropower generation and markets. They will address the changes they are making to help lead the industry through ongoing transitions in markets, policies, and more.
WOMEN WITH HYDROVISION LUNCHEON
HydroVision International offers a wide variety of networking opportunities that offer attendees a chance to build alliances among hydro professionals, share knowledge and expertise toward effective solutions, and see the most comprehensive collection of hydro-related products and services in the industry.
The Women with HydroVision program is designed to recognize women who have made and/or are continuing to make significant contributions to the hydro industry by sharing their unique talents and “vision” to improve and advance the hydro industry. The Women with HydroVision committee, consisting of industry peers and former Women with Hydro Vision award recipients, will evaluate all nominations received based on their overall merit, career achievements, and other contributions to the hydro sector.
BREAKOUT SESSION: INCREASING WATER STORAGE
New dams, dam raises, project expansions, and water management approaches provide opportunities for both increasing and more effectively using of existing storage, but they come with technical, environmental, and social challenges. This session will explore how owners and regional authorities are planning for and managing increased water needs (storage and supply) in light of climate change, a dynamic regulatory environment, population growth, change in water usage, and other factors.
